Local Info
Shopping Shopping is so easy now we have an excellent supermarket only 5 minutes walk from Vera Natura. The ‘Consum’ has a great range of fresh vegetables, fruit, freshly baked bread, fish and meat as well as beer, wine, water and all other essentials.
Restaurants and Bars There are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from all within walking distance, the all you can eat Chinese Buffet is a great favourite.
The Sol y Luna and Tigger’s beach bars are both naturist friendly and serve chilled beers and wines to refresh you after a hard day on the beach. Our personal favorite is Tiggers where we have spent many a happy lunchtime enjoying good food and a very chilled beer. The beach of Vera Playa is scattered with small 'chiringuito's (beach bars) with several on the naturist part of the beach.
Vera Playa with views towards Garrucha and Mojacar Pueblo
Places of Local Interest The delightful fishing village of Garrucha, about 10 minutes drive away, has seafood and fish restaurants all serving today’s catch. Eat and then enjoy a stroll along the wide prom overlooking the sandy beach. There is a large market here on Fridays offering a great chance to stock up on your fresh vegetables and fruit as well as all the usual merchandise.
Mojacar Playa has a huge offering of Chiringitos (beach bars) as well as restaurants ranging from Chinese, Indian and Spanish with a good sprinkling of English bars serving all day breakfasts, lunches and dinners.
The playa stretches 9km along a lovely sandy beach on one side and has a backdrop of the Sierra Cabrera Mountains.
Mojacar Pueblo, the old Moorish town, is inland from the Playa and is a pretty white painted Spanish town. The maze of narrow alleyways leading to squares and magnificent viewpoints are well worth the steep climb up. The main viewing platform off the town square affords a beautiful view to the coastline. You can watch the sun set across the valley and try to pick out the villages of Badar, Turre and Garrucha. According to some, the old town of Mojacar was the birthplace of a Jose Guirao, born approx 1901. He and his parents emigrated to America where they died when he was only 12 years old. Jose was adopted by the Disney family who gave him the name of Walt.
The small and friendly village of Villaricos has a pretty marina accessed by a wide promenade. Every Sunday there is a market with fresh fruit, vegetables and all kinds of other goods including clothes, shoes and gifts. The view from here back to Garrucha and Mojacar are spectacular. Hidden in the streets of the village is the only supermarket open all day on Sundays. Its run by a friendly elderly Spanish lady who sells everything from Jamon cut from the bone to sun cream! Find it and enjoy!
There is so much more to see, do and enjoy, from horse riding, scuba diving, sailing, walking, go-carting and even skiing if you go during the winter and take the 3 hour drive to Granada. There are wonderful opportunities to explore by car. The Cabo de Gata natural park. all the wonderful Spanish hill towns and coastal drives to take your breath away. The best way to really find out more is to book your escape at Casa de Amigos and find out for yourself.
